RESIDENTIAL SECURITY

How Does Residential Security Work?

There are two main factors to consider in residential security:

  1. Deterrent – preventing people from considering your home as a target
  2. Response – dealing with people should they enter your property

It is often found that the most effective solution is a two-person team, at a minimum, as this creates the ability to act as both deterrent and response simultaneously. The exact role, and numbers employed in the role, will depend on your property and needs as there is not a one-size-fits-all box.

A standard set-up, as an example, is to have one individual patrolling and one individual acting as first responder, with each individual swapping roles throughout their duty to maintain freshness.

The presence of an individual on patrol acts as an extremely strong deterrent because it signals the presence of professional, vigilant protection. For instance, at night it signals to anyone considering intruding that they must deal with an unknown number (to them) of professional security personnel, rather than a simple approach to a sleeping household.

Obviously, there are different levels of security. Our baseline service reduces to virtually zero the risk of burglary or other invasive intrusion. Should you face more specific threats, we can increase our response to match the level of risk you face.

All persons conducting Residential Security are trained and licensed in accordance with the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and, depending on each individual requirement, can be selected from various background and experience levels.

Residential Security

Do Residential Security personnel carry any weapons?

The simple answer to this is, no…not within the UK. The carriage of weapons within the UK, unless as a part of a Government authorised function, is prohibited by Law, and there is no special allowance given for personnel operating within the corporate or private security arenas.

What training do Residential Security personnel have?

The majority of our personnel have a UK military background combined with Close Protection training, including vetting by the SIA. All personnel are medically trained to the level of being able to provide first responder / emergency care. This qualifies them to deal with such medical situations as; basic life support, child and infant life support, maintenance of airways, use of Automated External Defibrillator, support and isolation injuries, minor and major haemorrhage, shock, heart attack and angina, unconscious patients and persons suffering from stroke, asthma and epileptic attacks.

Where will the Residential Security personnel be accommodated?

This depends on a couple of factors. Firstly, is there availability of accommodation on site? Secondly, does the client wish for the personnel to stay on site? (this may actually be within the confines of the family home). Finally, does the budget allow for personnel to be accommodated off-site?

Is Residential Security needed at home if I/we are away on vacation?

Un-occupied homes present a “soft target”. The constant presence of Residential Security personnel makes your home an extremely “hard target”. Criminals look for easy targets. If you are the only property in a postcode with Residential Security, then criminals will likely switch to targets that do not have Residential Security.

This is not to say that you HAVE to have Residential Security during times of vacation, only that it reduces to near zero the risk of a burglary or other invasive intrusion.

It is also worth noting that burglaries peak during key holiday periods like Christmas, as criminals know that homes may be unoccupied.

How does Residential Security pricing work?

Generally, Residential Security is costed on a daily rate, per person. For additional requirements, such as short-term required personnel (in support of parties, gatherings, events etc), and depending on usage, this can be costed per hour or on the same daily rate principle.

Residential Security Case Examples

Example 1

An HNW businessman, owning a large property within Oxfordshire, requested a 24hr Residential Security presence as continual peace of mind towards the security of his personal art collection, kept within a secure vault inside his home.

The deployment of personnel consisted of one person working a 12hr shift throughout the day, and one person working a 12hr shift during the night. Personnel would work for 7 consecutive shifts before swapping out with two other personnel who would work the same period of time. This rotational process continued throughout the duration of the contracted services.

Their duties consisted of foot patrols of the interior of the grounds, monitoring of CCTV and alarm systems, and physical checks of the vault housing the artwork.

In this instance, the Client provided accommodation for Residential Security personnel during the contracted period.

This contract was engaged on an agreed daily charge rate, paid by the client on a direct debit basis over 12 equal monthly instalments. Any additional charges, such as Close Protection, additional Residential Security personnel or any expenses incurred were invoiced as they occurred.

Example 2

A member of a foreign royal family, living within central London, requested a 24hr Residential Security presence to afford him peace of mind towards his home during times he and his family were in the UK, as well as times they were not. Time spent away from the property was greater than time spent in it.

Their duties consisted of monitoring of CCTV and alarm systems, as well as the access control of personnel who would visit the property for a multitude of reasons, including; deliveries, decoration, cleaning and preparation prior to Client return.

In this instance, the Client did not provide accommodation for Residential Security personnel during the contracted period. Personnel would either live within a reasonable commutable distance, or be accommodated at Company expense, which was offset within the negotiated agreed daily charge rate.

This contract was engaged on an agreed daily charge rate, paid by the client on a direct debit basis over 12 equal monthly instalments.

Example 3

An HNW family, owning a substantial property within a rural UK location, requested a night-time only Residential Security presence to afford them continual peace of mind towards the security and safety of their children whilst they continued to travel extensively in their professional, executive roles.

The deployment of personnel consisted of two persons working 12hrs shifts between set timings. Personnel conducted Residential Security for periods of two consecutive weeks before swapping out with two other personnel who would then do the same. This rotational process continued throughout the duration of the contracted services.

Their duties consisted of foot patrols of the internal grounds, as well as the external perimeter, and the monitoring of an installed CCTV and alarm systems.

In this instance, the estate allowed for accommodation of Residential Security personnel during the contracted period.

Occasional client requests would dictate support of their movements in providing Close Protection either from personnel from within the Residential Security Team, or by other personnel provided by the company.

This contract was engaged on an agreed daily charge rate, paid by the client on a direct debit basis over 12 equal monthly instalments. Any additional charges, such as Close Protection, additional Residential Security personnel or any expenses incurred were invoiced at the end of the month in which they were incurred.

Example 4

A known celebrity, living within central London, requested a 24hr Residential Security presence to afford her peace of mind towards her family and her collection of valuable jewellery. Previously, the Client had been victim to unwanted attention from “fans” and wanted to safeguard herself and her family against any such future occurrences, especially when at home. The Client also wished to safeguard against the threat of burglary due to showcasing her valuables during work-related appearances.

The deployment of personnel consisted of three persons working a 12hr shift (or greater, depending on additional requirements) throughout the day, dropping to two persons working a 12hr shift during the night. Personnel would work for 7 consecutive shifts before swapping out with five other personnel who would work the same period of time. This rotational process continued throughout the duration of the contracted services.

Their duties consisted of monitoring of CCTV and alarm systems, as well as the access control of personnel who would visit the property for a multitude of reasons, including; meetings, deliveries and cleaning.

Two personnel working during the day would also stand-up as Close Protection during any and all Client movements away from the family home. This would leave one person to maintain the security of the family home until either the other daytime personnel returned, with the Client, or the night personnel started their duty.

The daily rate was agreed at two varied rates. One rate for Residential Security only, and another rate to be paid upon the stand-up of personnel to Close Protection duties within any given day. The rate would vary according to the amount of days personnel worked in each role.

Any additional charges, such as any expenses incurred were invoiced at the end of the month in which they were incurred.
